How to Apply to the CHIETA Bursary

The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) bursary is a bursary scheme that supports skills in the chemical sector, including the following skills:

The bursary supports South African learners studying or wishing to study at any of the related fields in the chemical industries sector at a registered South African Higher Education and Training (HET) or Further Education and Training (FET) institution. 

The CHIETA bursary covers tuition and book allowance costs within the range of R30 000 to R45 000 for each learner. Should additional funds become available from CHIETA or other bursaries, learners may receive a top-up bursary. The bursary contracts are issued for a year, and renewal is dependent on the learner passing their examinations and the availability of CHIETA funds. 

The CHIETA bursary will fund undergraduate studies at South African institutions of higher learning provided the students are looking to study a programme in the following fields:

Prior to applying to the bursary, it is important that learners look at the requirement and make sure that they meet all of them. Should the requirements not be met, the application may not be considered.

Application Procedure

In October, the CHIETA bursary scheme may post advertisements calling for learners to apply to the bursary in the national newspapers and post the application forms on the CHIETA website.

To apply, visit the CHIETA website at chieta.org.za and download the application form. Complete the form accurately and carefully and submit it, along with the accompanying documents, to bursary@chieta.org.za

Closing Date

The application closing date for the 2023 academic year is 31 July 2023 at 15:00.

For the 2022 academic year, the applications will open on 4 June 2023.
